Ann Hart Coulter (born December 8, 1961) is an American social and political commentator, best selling author, and syndicated columnist. She frequently appears on television, radio, and as a speaker at public and private events. Well-known for her conservative political opinions and the controversial ways in which she defends them, Coulter has described herself as a polemicist who likes to “stir up the pot” and, unlike “broadcasters,” does not “pretend to be impartial or balanced.”(From wikipedia)
And let me assure you, she isn’t balanced. I’ve read several of her books. She’s crazy. She’s mean-spirited. She is what’s wrong with American Politics. She makes money selling hate. Worse, she makes horrible arguments.
See, I have an expression. A bad argument is a bad argument. It’s not poetic or artistic, but it makes a simple point. Even if you are right, a bad argument is bad. Let’s say she is debating a democrat who wants to raise taxes. He gets up and gives a long address with flow charts and statistics and quotes from famous people and he presents and argument that higher taxes are good for America. Then Coulter gets up to argue that no, killing puppies is bad. Instead of actually arguing her point she’ll start rambling on about how all democrats are terrorists who hate their country, how Bill Clinton slept with an intern and killed a friend and that Obama wants to give Osama a backrub. By the time she’s done, every Democrat is insulted, every Republican is angry at all the democrats, and no one has debated the issue.
Ann Coulter is right a lot. I agree with her a lot. But a bad argument is a bad argument, and Ann Coulter loves using bad arguments. She is fundamentally opposed to helping American politics move forward, she is incapable of civil disagreement and she hurt America with he hate speech. I’ve read several of her books and hate them all. When I read her hate, I find myself agreeing with her on certain points, which is okay, but it upsets me to agree with a woman filled with so much hate.
