Political Musings on the Middle East

Middle East Wikipage

“The global importance of the Middle East is that it keeps the Far East and the Near East from encroaching on each other” – Dan Quayle
“This mad dog of the Middle East.” – Ronald Reagan        “The Middle Eastern states aren’t nations; they’re quarrels with borders.” – P J O’Rourke

“There is no such thing as a Palestinian people… It is not as if we came and threw them out and took their country. They didn’t exist.” – Golda Meir

“How can we return the occupied territories? There is nobody to return them to.” – Golda Meir

The Middle East is a section of Earth located here. It has Iraq, Iran, Israel, Saudia Arabia, Turkey, Jordan, the Palestinian people (if they ever get a country), Egypt, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Quatar, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, and Syria. It has a great deal of the worlds oil supplies, and 40% of our oil travels right through Iran’s backyard, a country that hates the US.       A cluster bomb is a missile that flies over a designated area with not a single massive payload, but hundreds of smaller grenade-like bombs. When over it’s area, the cluster bomb drops these bombs in a broad “cluster”. If you are in this area, you are fucked. You can’t out run them, out duck them, or out think them. It’s total random, meaningless death from above and there is nothing you can do about it.

A cluster-f*ck is very similar, only the bombs dropped are way worse.

The middle east is a cluster-f*ck. We are damned if we go over there, damned if we don’t. So if we do anything in that part of the world, we need to make sure we do it smart, do it right, do it once, and get out.

There are four central disaster areas in the middle east.

The Muslims and the Jews hate each other. Thus the Nation of Isreal, surrounded by muslin nations, is a constant source of tension. For some 2000+ years that area has been warring to get the Jews out. Each people has good cause to hate the other and claim the land as thier own. No one is really right.

Sunnis hate Shiites. When the prophet mohomed died, the question of sucsession left a rift in the Muslim world that contniues to foster rage and bloodshed.

The Saudis love the Saudis. Saudi Arabia use to be just Arabia until the Saudis took over. Then they found oil, which they felt was a gift from god. With their wealth and heavy-handed theocracy, they are a source of constant difficulty. They, along with Iran and Syrian, are not trusted over there. People in the Middle East fear their influence.

Saudia Arabia is the de facto leader of OPEC, and supposedly our allies. If they had open elections the royal family (who like America) would lose horribly to the Islamic extremists. Oh, and 11 of the 13 suicide hijackers on9/11 were Saudi Islamic extremists. Yay for allies.

Everyone hates us, and we have soldiers all over the place. In fiarness, not everyone over there hates us. But the majority really does. Every American soldier in that part of the world is like a needle in their eye. They want us out, and fast. This is about the only thing that they all agree on.
