“For me, the most disturbing aspect of the Republican political culture is how it puts its unquenchable thirst for power, domination and a radical ideology above facts, reason and the truth. – AL GORE,”

“All people are born alike – except Republicans and Democrats. – Groucho Marx”

“The GOP needs to live the planks of its platform, not just offer lip service. – SARAH PALIN”

“A Democrat has to show the toughness to govern. People don’t doubt that Republicans will be tough. – Al From”

The Republican Party is a Conservative party often said to be “to the Right” of America’s political “center”. They generally believe in limited government, fiscally restrained budgets, states rights, a strong 2nd ammendment right, supply-side economics, constructionist judiciary, strong national defense and executive branch, as well as a social focus on so-called tradional and christian moral values.

My problem with them is that they believe in limited government when it comes to their wallets, but they want Big Brother to sleep in your bed, whereas Democrats believe almost the polar opposite, getting government out of your bed, but taking your wallet on the way out. There is also the wider irony in the question, “Should you vote for someone to work in government when their philosophy is that government is the probem.” It would be like hiring a carpenter who’s philosophy is that the fewer supplies used, and the fewer regulations followed the better. Who wants to live in the house he built?

They say they believe in states rights, but they pushed for an amendment to define marriage at the federal level. When George Bush didn’t want to lose florida they fought to stop the recount at the federal level. When Terri Schiavo was declared brain dead for many years, and the husband decided that it was time to pull the plug, it was the Republicans who voted to give the federal government more power to control families lives. They say they’re against all socialism when the most socialist state in the Union (alaska) has a Republican governor and two republican senators. They say they’re for fiscal restraint, but the last three Republican Presidents Reagan, Bush and Bush all had huge runaway deficits. They’re for supply-side, but fight against immigration reform, and claim to want constructionist judges, even when their prize judge Scalia rejects it.

I am a limited government guy. I want low taxes, but I also want government to let me live my life, in that belief, I also want government to leave my neighboors alone unless they’re doing me harm. I am firmly against legislating morality, which is what they try to do. Their stand against moral issues provides them their strongest base, the Religious Right.
